About the role

The Seed Production Manager is responsible for the planning, procurement and supervision of all aspects of the planting, growing, harvesting and processing of the Company’s proprietary forage crops, both in New Zealand and overseas, to meet planned demand requirements.  They lead a team of seed production specialists, supporting them to achieve the Company’s seed production quantity and quality targets.

 

As a member of the company’s senior management team this role also involves bringing strategic thinking and analytical skills to the table to contribute to setting business direction for Barenbrug. The role has a high degree of autonomy however, it must be undertaken in a way that aligns with Barenbrug values.  Further, relationship management is critical, as there are many interactions with a variety of different stakeholders.

 

This position is based at Barenbrug’ research farm and head office at Courtenay.

About You

You will need to have a keen interest and strong technical ability in pastoral agronomy, with an in depth knowledge in seed production. You should also feel comfortable and confident in developing relationships at all ends of the seed production value chain – from growers, processors and research organizations’, as well as building and maintaining internal relationships within Barenbrug in New Zealand and across the wider international group.

 

You will value the importance of team work and collaboration, and have a strong drive towards your own professional and personal development. The ability to think critically and push boundaries in terms of your thinking is essential for this role together with the following demonstrated skills and experience:

 

  • Relevant Qualification(s);
  • Strong customer service ethic;
  • Willingness to take ownership, be held accountable and with an ability to influence outcomes;
  • Excellent communications skills and proven success in building and maintaining strong internal and external relationships.
