We are seeking a field technician to work at our Kaipaki research station in Waikato, near Cambridge. You will be part of the world class breeding and research team, focussed on a range of breeding and research activities.

About the role

This is an excellent opportunity to develop a field-based technician career. The role is practical with a varied range of plant breeding activities including data collection, nursery management, field agronomy and trials management. Core activites will involve the use of specialised mowing equipment for high quality data collection and tractor mounted equipment for trial and nursery maintenance.

 

The Plant Breeding Field Technician supports the plant breeders and takes ownership of certain areas of the research and development programmes, to help Barenbrug achieve its business objective – of being the leading pasture company for farmers. This role will be based at our Kaipaki research farm, the base for our evaluation trials and breeding work in the North Island.

 

You will develop and maintain strong relationships with members of the plant breeding team and pasture systems team as well as external industry researchers, contractors, farmers, and third-party suppliers.

 

About You

You are practical and enjoy working outdoors. You have an eye for detail and an interest in agriculture and research. You will want to make a positive difference in the New Zealand pastoral industry. You will value the importance of teamwork and strive to assist other team members as much as you can, along with having a real drive for professional work. The ability to achieve a high standard of accuracy in your work is a must for this role. A positive attitude and personal responsibility are also essential.
