Most common on dry soils of low pH and fertility. Perennial with creeping root system.

 

Identification

Has small thick leaves, shaped like arrowheads with broad blunt tips. It grows an upright stem in October typically 20-30 cm tall that carries small red flowers. When in mass it gives paddocks a red appearance in early summer.

 

Characteristics

Very hardy but a poor competitor in dense pasture. It is poisonous but it is unusual for animals to eat enough to cause death.
